Why is breastfeeding important?
According to UNICEF, it is estimated that the lives of at least 1.2 million children could be saved every year through increased and improved breastfeeding. Breastfeeding decreases the risk of infections and illnesses in infants, as well as promotes proper development. According to the Surgeon General, if 90% of US families followed guidelines to breastfeed exclusively for six months, the US would annually save $13 billion from reduced medical and other costs.
