County Health Departments (CHDs) have the responsibility for the supervision of all private, multi-family, and limited-use public water systems from which water is available to the public. CHDs implement the operational environmental health aspects of this program component and perform other functions which include conducting sanitary surveys, plan reviews, evaluating water treatment and distribution systems, collecting and evaluating water samples, and investigating waterborne disease outbreaks, including conditions associated with bacterial/viral, chemical, and radiological contaminants.
Water Sample Collection Procedure
To have your water tested, a special sample bottle needs to be obtained first. Water sample bottles can be picked up during normal business hours at the Environmental Public Health Office. Water samples are taken Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost for the bottle and to test the sample is $45.00 which is paid at the time the sample is submitted.
Be sure to ask for the instruction sheet when you pick up the bottle. You must follow the instructions for the disinfection of the faucet to prevent a false positive when you fill your bottle. If you have any questions about the procedure, be sure to ask any of the EH Staff.
